Our first independent paper is out in Scientific Reports. A great collaboration between two NCI K00 awardees paid off with a new look at how chemotherapy may feed pro-survival signaling in ER+ breast cancer: docetaxel prompts pericytes in the tumor microenvironment to secrete IL-6, which activates STAT3 in tumor cells. Blocking the IL-6 receptor with tocilizumab reduced this signaling and enhanced docetaxel’s effect in a subset of patient-derived organoids. Go Team Science!
